A/C blows cold but won't shut off at thermostat

I have a Nordyne heat pump (Q6SD series) and it's won't turn off at the thermostat. The pump is working great so far as cooling the house. But the only way to turn off the AC is by manually switching it off at the thermostat instead of allowing the "programmed" temp shutting it off. I've already replaced the thermostat with an identical replacement (LUX programmable) but the problem persists. Any suggestions?

The pump itself sounds great and is doing a very good job cooling the house. We switch it on at night and it runs continuously until we shut it off in the morning. By then it's really cold in the house. I live in Southern Arizona so the pump gets a pretty good workout.
