Carrier heat pump making buzzing noise no cool air (compressor not running)

In the winter I had a reversing valve leaking and it was replaced. Now my carrier heat pump is making a buzzing noise. (Compressor??) wont start but the fan is still running and there is no cool air.

Possibility is it's Normal

The buzzing sound COULD be related to its defrosting cycle. Not sure, because I can't hear it.

If you have a bad run capacitor for the fan or a bad fan, it will prevent the compressor from running so as to avoid damaging it.

Compressor contactor

That description sounds like a classic compressor contactor problem.

The buzzing noise comes from the contactor trying to close. Whenever the heat pump receives a call for cooling or heating, the control mechanism is the contactor. It receives a control signal from the thermostat and it closes (completes) the electrical circuit for the compressor.

If you are not an electrician or technician, I wouldn't recommend replacing it yourself. But a contactor is an easy fix and shouldn't be too expensive. Let us know if there are any more details or if that is the problem!
