Heat pump compressor keeps running even when the thermostat turned off

The heat pump is a Honeywell, unsure of model number. It was installed in 2009.

I sleep days and turned the a/c on 2 mornings ago. When I woke, I turned it off. The compressor kept running. And has been running ever since.

I went to the closet that contains the indoor parts, including an electric air filter system, and wasn't sure which switch to turn, or if the switch to turn compressor off is even inside.

Any thoughts? Is there danger of some sort by allowing just the compressor to run?

Thanks.

Not good to run the compressor only!

It is definitely bad for the compressor to run while the fans are off. This will burn up the compressor. I would definitely shut off power to the heat pump and call a technician to resolve the problem.
