Heat Pump Intermittently Blows Cold Air While in Heating Mode

I have a 5 ton Rheem heat pump that is 5 years old. I have been having problems with the heat pump. The heating starts working fine and at some point it stops blowing hot air even though both the indoor and outdoor units continue running.

When i see that the unit stops blowing hot air i turn it off, and after a while, perhaps an hour or two later i turn it back on. It starts heating again for a while until it starts blowing cold air again. Not sure what the issue could be..can anyone comment on it?

Auxiliary heat

Maybe your heat pump is having a hard time trying switch from standard heat pump heat to auxiliary heat. It could be a problem with the auxiliary heat itself or a problem with communications from the thermostat/control relays.
